Vzerthos: The Heir of Thunder Has hack and slash and shmup. It was a personal choice, but the stealth genre option shouldn’t be ignored since the game can be played with stealth in mind. I didn’t play the game with stealth and went in Guns blazing. Similarly Wolfenstein New Order has the stealth genre. I would say keep both genres since you can play the game either way depending on your choice. I played GTA V completely in third person except for an idle in first person mode and it still has both genres. I don’t think just because you approach a game a certain way it shouldn’t be eligible for other genres. Melee, or shooting.ĭifferent genres, but GTA V has first and third person shooter genres, when it is optional to switch between first and third person.
I would say both since you can choose to play the game either way. I would argue both shoot em up and hack and slash need to be added, or neither. If you watch this whole video you will see what I mean Meanwhile if you pick a class like the protector you will be using close up weapons and will not experience a shoot em up type of game. If you pick a class like bounty Hunter you will see what I mean. The bounty hunter and constructor classes are very weak and constantly need to navigate around hordes of enemies shooting them. You mentioned van Helsing #1, #2, and #3. Similarly, I played through the whole game only with guns and without using melee weapons. You mentioned that you played the game and didn’t see any guns. (Hope our explanation is good, words hard in morning boop)Thanks for the response! Yes, I can see how people would play the game as hack and slash instead of a shoot em up. Sure we could go into the argument of should SHMUP be added based on it being a requirement in a game or how you play, but we still felt like it was very very minimal in this series, both in how much it existed and how it played out when then used. From my own personal experience of playing through all 3 Van Helsing games, I don't remember using my ranged all that much. You can go an entire playthrough without turning it into a shooting hell if you so choose, and even if you decide to turn over to ranged abilities, it doesn't quite go to the lengths that most TwinStick/Melee combo games would go, Ascent being a good comparison here. We originally said no on SHMUP as sure it may seem like it fits with the ranged classes/weaponry, like how a necromancer or mage works in Diablo, but they're not prevalent enough to consider the game a SHMUP. (Hope our explanation is good, words hard in morning boop) In addition to my previous shoot em up genre submission.I 100% feel like I posted a reply here for you, so I apologise and chalk that up to me being a genuine moron. I agree with the game also being hack and slash.
